Titanio
PANORAMICA DEL TITANIO
Il titanio è assolutamente immune agli attacchi ambientali, indipendentemente dagli agenti inquinanti. Laddove altri metalli presentano una durata di vita limitata, il titanio resiste. Il peso specifico del titanio è 4,51 g/cm3, ovvero circa il 60% di quello dell'acciaio, la metà di quello del rame e 1,7 volte quello dell'alluminio. Oltre ad avere un'eccellente resistenza meccanica (paragonabile all'acciaio dolce), il titanio è durevole e resistente agli urti. Il suo modulo di elasticità (una misura della velocità di deformazione) è la metà di quello dell'acciaio inossidabile. Grado 4 : titanio puro non legato con la massima resistenza. Eccellente resistenza alla corrosione, buona formabilità e saldabilità. Utilizzato nei tubi idraulici e per strumentazione. Eccellente resistenza alla corrosione. Utilizzato per parti che richiedono resistenza fino a 400°F e resistenza all'ossidazione fino a 600°F. Applicazioni: apparecchiature per processi chimici, soffietti, strutture per aeromobili, nido d'ape, guarnizioni, rivestimento di aeromobili, parti di scambiatori di calore.
Grado 5 (titanio Ti-6Al-4V) - La lega Ti più comune. Elevata resistenza ed elevata resistenza al calore. Aerospaziale e Oil & Gas, pale, dischi, anelli, cellule, elementi di fissaggio, componenti. Recipienti, casse, mozzi, forgiati. Impianti biomedici.
Grado 7 - Resistenza alla corrosione superiore in ambienti riducenti e ossidanti. (Industria chimica)
Grado 9 - Elevata robustezza e resistenza alla corrosione. (Tubazioni idrauliche)
Grado 23 (6-4Eli) - Maggiore duttilità e resistenza alla frattura rispetto al Gr 5.
