    • Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Welding Rods
      Polyethylene is impact resistant, abrasion resistant, is machinable and has low water absorption. Proven applications for PE are bins and liners, tanks, laboratory vessels, cutting boards and slides. Polyethylene is an easy thermoplastic to weld.

    • HDPE Welding Rods are available from Professional Plastics in both coils and straight lengths. The most important element to successful thermoplastic welding is the filler rod. To insure proper bonding, it is essential that filler rods be made with the same high grade resins used in the material being welded.     • Extruded Acrylic Rods are available from Professional Plastics in standard 6 foot lengths (full cases only). These economical acrylic rods are excellent for use in POP Displays and other decorative items. They are normally supplied in a paper sleeve to protect during handling, but keep in mind that extruded acrylic rods do not have the optical clarity or machining characteristics of cast acrylic rod. In larger diameter rods (.875" dia and above) these high-quality extruded rods are commonly used as grab bars in showers, tubs and spas. Acrylic is moisture resistant, non-toxic and meets standard building codes for use in these applications.
    • Extruded Acrylic Rods are NOT for Machining.
    • For Machinable, Acrylic Rods, use CAST Acrylic Rods (sold by the foot)
    • ABS welding rods are available in both straight, 48 inch lengths, or in coils for continuous operation. Coils are typically sold in standard 25 pound (11.36 kgs) coils, but may be available in smaller lots upon request. Staight lengths are also sold in standard boxes, but may be available in 1 pound increments upon request.

      ABS offers an excellent balance of properties at an economical price point. It has good chemical and stress-resistance as well as a combination of toughness with rigidity and creep resistance. Good resistance to inorganic salt solutions, alkalis, acids, and some oils. Excellent abrasion resistance; electrical properties, moisture and creep resistance.     • Paper Phenolic Rods - GRADE XXX—PAPER PHENOLIC
      A paper base phenolic laminate with good mechanical properties, high dielectric strength, and good resistance to moisture. Grade XXX is our most economically priced grade and is recommended for most mechanical applications, for use at radio frequencies, and in high humidity situations.

    • Nylon® MD (Cast 6) is a nylon and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) composition designed to improve the mechanical, thermal and bearing properties to Type 6 Nylon while maintaining its basic electrical and chemical characteristics. Cast Nylon MD is more cost efficient than extruded Nylon MD when it comes to production of large parts. The casting process allows for massive sheets up to 60" x 120", Rods up to 24" dia, Tubes up to 55" diameter, and even Near-net Shapes for the production of large, "hollowed-out" parts that would otherwise require heavy machining and waste.

      Through compounding, finely divided particles impart extra lubricity to this nylon, permitting Nylon MD parts to operate with little or no lubrication. This makes it especially suited to applications where external lubrication is impractical, contaminating or difficult to maintain. The added lubricity also contributes dramatically to component service life, making Nylon MD a very cost-efficient choice. Nylon MD provides non-galling and non-scratching characteristics, sound dampening qualities, insulating properties, resistance to oils, greases, most alkalies, solvents, and organic acids

      PVC is the most widely used member of the vinyl family. Common applications include chemical processing tanks, valves, fittings & piping systems. PVC Sheets, Rods & Tubes offer excellent corrosion and weather resistance. It has a high strength-to-weight ratio and is a good electrical and thermal insulator. PVC is also self-extinguishing per UL flammability tests. PVC may be used to temperatures of 140°F (60°C). Available in rigid PVC Sheets, Rods, and Tube.

This material contains bromine on the epoxy resin backbone. G-10/FR-4 material meets the standard specifications of G-10, but is also UL94V-0, (thus named G-10/FR4). All standard G-10 sold by Professional Plastics is supplied in the premium version of G-10/FR-4 which meets Mil-I-24768/27.

    • Nylon 6/6 Harvesting Rods are used extensively in agricultural harvesting equipment within Grape and Citrus industries. Nylon rods deliver superior long lasting performance while maintaining their shape and flexibility. They pick better and last longer than competitive materials.

      Grape Harvesting:
      Typically, these wine-grape harvesting machines use Nylon shaking rods to beat the grapes from the vines. The grapes fall down and are collected in baskets fixed to a rotating chain which transports them to a large container at the back of the machine.

      There are several brands of grape harvesters that are compatible with Picking Rods (often called "Bo-Peep Rods", "Bo-Rods", or "Shepherd Rods", due to their uniquely curves shapes. These includes harvester brands such as; Korvan, Pellenc, Gregoire, Slider, Kilby, Spectrum, Quantum, Braud, and URM Vinestar models. Nylon 6/6 Rods are also used in "Tilt up" style picking mechanisms.

      Nylon 6/6 is used for these applications for several reasons:

      Citrus Harvesting:
      Mechanical Harvester Could Revolutionize Citrus Industry
      A new mechanical harvester developed by an Agricultural Research Service engineer may revolutionize the citrus industry by giving U.S. growers an edge on the orange market and making them more competitive with Brazilian growers.

      Using 12-foot-diameter drums with nylon rods that shake and rotate 5 feet into a tree's foliage, the machine can harvest a 90-pound field box of citrus for 50 cents, compared with the $1.50 it now costs with hand labor. And it can fill the 300 to 400 field boxes of fruit from each orchard acre 15 times faster than hand laborers. Although most citrus is hand-harvested, trunk shakers--different from foliage shakers--are beginning to be used even though they're effective only in certain types of groves. A chemical must be sprayed on trees to loosen mature fruit when the tree is shaken, but chemicals have not been approved for this purpose. The new foliage shaker doesn't require any fruit-loosening chemicals.

      It now costs Florida producers about as much to remove fruit from the tree and deliver it to processors as it does to grow the fruit, so the industry wants to lower harvesting costs. During peak season, Florida growers employ about 45,000 seasonal workers. Hand labor is expensive and may not always be available. Florida's Department of Citrus has signed a cooperative research and development agreement with ARS to use the new harvester, patterned after an original design built at the ARS Appalachian Fruit Research Station in Kearneysville, W.Va. The new harvester was built by Blueberry Equipment, Inc., South Haven, Mich., which licensed the original technology to harvest fresh blueberries.     • FEP Rods & Sheets
      FEP is a relatively soft thermoplastic with lower tensile strength, wear resistance, and creep resistance than many other engineering plastics. However, FEP is chemically inert and has a low dielectric constant over a wide frequency range. FEP possesses a very high degree of stress crack resistance, a low coefficient of friction, exceptional dielectric properties, heat resistance, retention of properties after service at 400°F (204°C) with useful properties at -454°F (-270°C), and meets FDA 21CFR.177.1550. FEP has high transparency (with good transmittance of UltraViolet and visible wavelengths.) FEP offers the lowest refractive index of all thermoplastics with low light reflection (the same as water.)
    • FEP stands for Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene.
    • PVDF Welding Rods are available from Professional Plastics in coils, spools and straight lengths. PVDF is sold under various brand names including Kynar and Solef PVDF.     • Cast acrylic rods offer excellent clarify & machining charaterics when compared to extruded rods. This material offers good chemical-resistance & is FDA approved for food contact.
      Acrylic offers high light transmittance and can be easily heat-formed without loss of optical clarity. Prolonged exposure to moisture, or even total immersion in water, does not significantly effect the mechanical or optical properties of this outstanding economical and multi-purpose material.

      PerFluoroAlkoxy (PFA) offers similar properties to FEP, but PFA is preferred when extended service is required in hostile environments involving chemical, thermal, and mechanical stress. PFA offers high melt strength, stability at high processing temperatures, excellent crack and stress resistance, a low coefficient of friction, and more than 10 times the Flex life of FEP. It has high resistance to creep and retention of properties after service at 500°F (260°C), with useful properties at -320°F (95°C). PFA also meets FDA 21CFR.177.1550.
