Kapton® Polyimide Film
Kapton film from DuPont has more than 35 years of proven performance as the flexible material of choice in applications involving very high, 400°C (752°F), or very low, -269°C (-452°F) temperature extremes. Kapton is used in a wide variety of applications such as substrates for flexible printed circuits, transformer and capacitor insulation and bar code labels.
Kapton® polyimide film possesses a unique combination of properties that make it ideal for a variety of applications in many different industries. The ability of Kapton® to maintain its excellent physical, electrical, and mechanical properties over a wide temperature range has opened new design and application areas to plastic films.
DuPont Kapton® Grades:
DuPont ™ Kapton® HN (Standard Grade as sold on this page)
- Standard-grade Kapton® HN film excels in low and high temperature environments. Type HN film can be laminated, metallized, punched, formed, or adhesive coated. It is available in thicknesses from 0.0003" (7.5 µm) up to 0.005" (125 µm).
DuPont ™ Kapton® VN -
This grade has all of the properties of Type HN, plus superior dimensional stability. Type VN is also available in thicknesses from 0.0003" (7.5 µm) up to 0.005" (125 µm).
KAPTON® Type FN- A composite of KAPTON HN and TEFLON® FEP film to impart heat sealability, for substrate lamination, and coverlay.
KAPTON® Type XP- A composite of KAPTON HN and PFA film to impart heat sealability, for substrate lamination, and coverlay. The PFA layer is especially suited for applications that require high bond strength at elevated operating temperatures.
KAPTON® Type KJ- All-polyimide thermoplastic sheet adhesive for high-temperature bonding under pressure. Suitable for coverlay and heater mounting.
KAPTON® Type HPP-ST- An all-purpose, uncoated film, with all the properties of type HN and specially surface treated for superior adhesion to both fluoropolymer sheet adhesives (TEFLON® FEP and PFA) and to KAPTON® kJ polyimide adhesive, as well as customer supplied adhesives.
Other grades are available with the following attributes: antistatic, thermally conductive, ptfe coated, cryogenic insulation, corona resistant, etchable, pigmented for color, and conformable.
.003" thickness = 45 square feet per pound
.005" thickness = 27 square feet per pound
Also available in adhesive backed Kapton tape
