Plastics offer impact-resistant glazing options that are superior to glass in most cases. Acrylic sheets are 17 times stronger than glass, but 50% of the weight (available in both extruded and cast sheets). For even higher impact resistance, consider polycarbonate (Makrolon, Lexan, or others). Plastics are available in specialty coated grades that resist abrasion or even static. Additional grades include Fire-Retardant (F/R), Sign Grade (SG), Solar (SL), Bullet-Resistant (BR).
