CAB - Cellulose Acetate Butyrate Sheets & Tubes
The applications for Cellulose Acetate Butyrate (CAB) are almost unlimited. CAB material has high impact resistance, proven ultra-violet weatherability, great chemical resistance, along with excellent forming characteristics. These material characteristics make CAB the ideal plastic for forming parts and products that are exposed to a demanding environment. Cellulose Acetate Butyrate's excellent forming characteristics will allow for deep drawn, detailed parts with low scrap rates.

Excelon CAB Tubing (Cellulose Acetate Butyrate) combines optical clarity and scuff and impact resistance with ease of fabrication. It can be easily cut, bonded with cement and printed. TPI's CAB is UL rated. Butyrate, cellulose acetate butyrate, tubing is ideal in any length for storage, packaging and shipping. Tubes are transparent and rigid with excellent dimensional stability and rigid with excellent dimensional stability and high impact strength. They are strong, durable and easy to fabricate. Butyrate tubing can be cut and sawed with standard equipment.

Excelon CAB Tubing is ideally suited for plastic packaging and tubing, especially for scientific products, and is available in FDA approved formulations for medical and food related uses. In addition, it's a logical choice for extruded and profile shapes. The exceptional permanence and dimensional stability of Excelon CAB make it ideal for thin walled applications where superior toughness, rigidity and durability are required. Because of its low water absorption characteristics, Excelon CAB exhibits minimal dimensional change in environments of varying humidity.

Excelon CAB extruded tubing and profile shapes are available in clear transparents; in a virtually unlimited range of transparent, translucent and opaque plain colors, variegations or mottles; and in pearlescent and metallic effects. Specific formulations are available for tints and colors with performance additives for ultraviolet stabilization, flame retardant and radiation resistance.
  • Excelon CAB tubing can be ordered from stock in 1/16" I.D. to 6" O.D. and up to 8" O.D. on custom orders in a variety of wall thickness.

    Cellulosics, as a group, are characterized by good strength, toughness, and high surface gloss. In addition, they have good chemical resistance, good clarity, sparkle, and will take decoration readily. Cellulose acetate butyrate is tougher than acetate and has lower moisture absorption. It resists weathering and has excellent transparency. Although it is adversely affected by alcohol, alkalis, paint removers, and acetones, it is resistant to most household chemicals. Additionally, CAB is resistant to the harmful effects of ultra-violet radiation.

    CAB Sheet is used for high gloss vacuum formed faces in back lighted signs, especially small point of purchase signs. Designers of display units especially like CAB sheet for its deep-draw properties, ease of formability, and impact resistance. Eastman UVEX Brand CAB Cellulose Acetate Butyrate Sheet is a highly impact-resistant plastic used for thermoforming a variety of OEM products for various applications. It qualifies as a Type I, Grade I material under the requirements of Standard Specification for Cellulose Acetate Butyrate Film and Sheeting for Fabricating and Forming (ASTM Designation: D2411-69).

    Combining long-term weather resistance with clarity and ease of forming at a wide range of temperatures. It is adaptable to most conventional methods of heating and forming. It will form satisfactorily at temperatures ranging from about 230ºF to about 320ºF. It heats and cools considerably faster than most other plastic sheet used for forming outdoor components. Uniform parts are obtained consistently because of strict control of sheet thickness.Strong, rigid parts with minimal thinning of the sheet in the areas of greatest stretching, are produced by the use of appropriate draft use on the mold. The proper draft will depend on both the depth of draw and the drawdown ratio for each part.

    CAB Sheet can be painted or silk-screened by using any one of the generally accepted acrylic-base paints or inks used for materials of this type. Eastman UVEX Brand CAB Cellulose Acetate Butyrate Sheet is stocked in a standard nominal sheet size of 50" x 76". It is also available in custom production blanket sizes in thicknesses ranging from 0.060 to 0.325 inch. CAB Sheet is available in 21 standard resin colors, as well as a wide spectrum of custom colors in transparent, translucent, and opaque.
